Calling in the cavalry!

February brought severe snowstorms and icy temperatures to our Chemring colleagues based in Toone, Tennessee. The Chemring Countermeasures (CCM USA) site was forced to shut down all production operations for one week due to the hazardous weather conditions.
Most people stayed safe at home and some took the opportunity to play in the snow with their kids, sledding and building snowmen. But Johnnie, Process Maintenance Manager at CCM USA, is a keen horse rider and rode his horse, J.R., around the town during the snow. He took the opportunity of being mobile to head over to the facility and check in on his maintenance technicians who were on-site working. It was quite a novelty to see someone ride in on horseback, certainly an alternative form of transport than most!

When asked if horse riding is Johnnie’s preferred method of travel to work for the future, he said, “I would love to bring J.R. in more often if we had a safe place to turn him loose and let him run while I was working.” Johnnie will be sticking to four wheels rather than four legs for now – until the next snowstorm.

The yearly average snowfall in Toone is one to two inches, and some years there is no snow fall at all. Therefore, to get 12 inches of snow in one go was quite a surprise to the Chemring team in Toone.
