Heat-seeking missiles are a significant threat to aircraft. Chemring Countermeasures has responded to this challenge by developing effective infrared countermeasures. Our decoy flares, which form a vital part of increasing an aircraft’s survivability against such threats. These decoys are available in a wide variety of formats, to suit almost all dispenser types. They are in service with Armed Forces throughout the world.

Chemring Countermeasures has more than five decades of experience in infrared (IR) expendable decoy research, design, and manufacturing. This wealth of experience informs all decisions made at Chemring, including safety. All aircraft flares have been designed with improved reliability and safety in mind to ensure that flares remain safe until pyrotechnically ejected from their outer case.

MTV - Flare CM 118 Mk3 Type 1

The 118 Mk3 Type 1 flare is used in aircraft countermeasure systems to combat heat-seeking missiles. The impulse cartridge is fitted during manufacture of the flare and provides the means of ejecting the payload.

Produced to UK MOD requirements, this MTV flare is used with NATO and multiple overseas air forces on a range of light attack/trainer and transport aircraft including helicopters.

Spectral & Aerodynamic – Flare CM DSTL72B

This 1"x1" Flare has an advanced payload and is intended to be used in aircraft countermeasure systems to combat advanced heat-seeking missiles employing rate-bias and spectral discrimination techniques.

The Flare CM DSTL72B is a direct fit and form alternative to all other 1”x1” flares. It is suitable for helicopters, small transport and small fighter jet aircraft applications.

MTV Aerodynamic - Flare CM 218A DSTL6A

The DSTL6A flare has an advanced payload intended for use in aircraft countermeasure systems. The impulse cartridge is fitted during manufacture of the flare and provides the means of ejecting the payload.

MTV - Flare CM 118 Mk4

The No118 Mk 4 Flare is used in aircraft countermeasures systems to combat heat-seeking missiles. The flare can be housed in a multiple shot magazine as fitted to countermeasures dispensing sets AN/ALE 40, 45 and 47 series, M130/ M147, Terma, Rokar, MES, SAAB, MBDA/ Alkan and Thales systems for example.

This 1" x 1" infrared flare has a spectrally-matched payload and is intended for use in aircraft countermeasure systems.

Spectral - Flare CM DSTL81 (218 advanced fast jet, 2" x 1")

This 2" x 1" spectral flare is for use in aircraft countermeasures systems to combat advanced heat-seeking missiles employing spectral discrimination techniques.

Spectral - Flare CM DSTL83 (2" x 1", 218 advanced for transport aircraft)

This 2" x 1" spectral flare for use in aircraft countermeasures systems to combat advanced heat-seeking missiles employing spectral discrimination techniques. Created for transport aircraft, the DSTL 83 military flare is a direct fit and form alternative to all other 2”x1” flares.

Spectral - Cart CM 55x200mm L2A1 (Typhoon)

The 55x200mm Spectral IR Decoy flare is used for the self-defence of the Typhoon military aircraft against infrared-seeking missiles and is carried in the FRL Typhoon IR Decoy dispenser.

When ejected, the flare emits a spectrally-matched infrared radiation which decoys IR missiles away from the host military aircraft.

The 218 Mk 4 flare is used in aircraft countermeasures systems to combat heat-seeking missiles. This MTV flare can be housed in a multiple shot magazine as fitted to countermeasures dispensing sets AN/ALE 40, 45 and 47 series, M130/M147, MBDA/Alkan, Terma, Rokar, MES, SAAB and Thales systems, for example.

MTV - Cart CM 55mm No4 Mk2

The Cartridge Countermeasure 55mm Mk2 flare is used for the self-defence of military aircraft whilst in flight, against infrared-seeking missiles. Each cartridge in this countermeasure flare contains electrically initiated assemblies, with each flare ejecting individually from the cartridge.

The 218 Mk3 Type 3 flare has a spectrally-matched payload, intended for use in aircraft countermeasure systems. This aircraft flare can be contained in a multiple-shot magazine. This is to be fitted to countermeasures dispensing sets including AN/ALE 40,45,47 series, M130/M147, MBDA/ALKAN, THERMA, MES, ROKAR, SAAB and THALES systems.
