“Where every day is different, and there is always a new challenge to overcome,” Mike – one of our 54 apprentices.
Have you ever thought about being an Apprentice?
Our apprentices share their experiences to give you an idea of what it’s like to be one, and why it could be the perfect choice for you.
Chloe Reed, a Business Administrator modern apprentice at Ardeer, says, “The most enjoyable part of the job is being on the shop floor and seeing first-hand what happens in production and gaining more knowledge of how products are manufactured in Chemring.”
As well as the chance to develop product and technical knowledge, apprentices often experience several roles as part of their on-the-job-training. You get to see how the departments work together to ensure that quality products are manufactured and delivered to our customers.
It also offers you the chance to combine practical learning experience with studying towards a qualification in your chosen field. The majority of your week will be spent on-the-job, receiving expert guidance from a skilled team, while being supported to attend and complete academic learning at college or university one to two days per week.
Mike, an apprentice at Salisbury, says, “I’m doing a carpentry apprenticeship, and the best bit is gaining the practical skills in a fully equipped workshop whilst working with a great team.”
An apprenticeship can be a brilliant foundation to your career, listen to Mick Ord, our CEO about how he continues to apply the skills he gained during a four-year apprenticeship every day.
