Getting active at Chemring Nobel

During World Wellbeing Week in June, we caught up with some of the team at Chemring Nobel to find out how their recent Bike to Work initiative went.

The campaign is run nationally across Norway from 20 April to18 June. It encourages people up and down the country to log their minutes and miles cycling, running, walking or other physical activities each day.

The Chemring Nobel team boosted their motivation by running weekly competitions and challenges. Here we find out how some of the participants got on:

Kari Egeland, HR Manager:

“The Bike to Work initiative is a great way to focus on getting more active as well as competing with my colleagues, both individually and as a team. I have logged 530km and 71.5 hours of activity by walking and running. My team also won third place in our internal competition (shared with another team).”

"I haven't managed to win any of the national prizes, but I won one of the prizes we have in the company. Each week we draw three "lucky trainers" that each gets a scratch card, and I won one of those (didn't win any money, though!).”

Kjell Even Misfjord, HSE Coordinator:

“I’m taking part in this initiative to inspire me to keep up the outdoor activities. I’m registering for all kinds of physical activities, not only cycling. I’ve logged 586 km and 111 hours. I’ve been running, mountain biking, walking, gardening, mountain hiking, and fishing.”

“Chemring has also given us some useful items to support our physical activities, like a nice backpack and a thermos bottle. It's great that the company is promoting health and wellbeing. I did weekly mountain bike trips in the Sætre area.”

Wenche Fagerli, Laboratory Engineer:

“I was the one who proposed this initiative for our company, as it's really important to stay fit and fun to do something together. I have received points every day and logged 16,967 min and 1,256km in the end. My activities included cycling, walking and being active at work. I was also lucky enough to win a prize in the lucky trainer draw.

“Such activity is not new to me, as I usually cycle a lot during the summer season. But I think it's fun with the competition, being part of a team, and competing together.”
