Norway Constitution Day

Today our colleagues in Norway are celebrating Constitution Day, the day that Norway became an independent kingdom on the signing of their constitution on 17th May 1814.
Norwegians celebrate the occasion by dressing up in traditional costumes and taking part in parades and waving flags, whilst enjoying music and festivities.  Today is especially important for children, with schools across the country raising money through cake sales and performances to their parents.   Covid restrictions this year and last have curtailed such fund raising and local businesses have stepped in to sponsor the salute.  We are delighted that Chemring Nobel has sponsored their local salute in Eidsvoll.

The salute is a honor statement, usually at 7am, and marks the start of a day of celebrations.  Thanks go to our Chemring colleague, Torbjørn Haugen (pictured above), who is using his day off work to make the salute happen for the local community.

We wish our colleagues in Norway a happy and joyful Constitution Day.
