5-11 June 2023 is the 100th annual Bike Week, marking a century of celebrating everyday cycling for everyone.
The aim of Bike Week 100 is to encourage employees to choose their bikes instead of their cars. Transport remains one of the largest sources of emissions across the globe. Whether it’s commuting or any other business journey, active travel can make a significant contribution to reducing emissions.
And the benefits aren't just for the environment, as cycling improves health and saves money for individuals too.
During Bike Week and beyond, our focus across Chemring is on the health and well-being of our colleagues, as well as the simultaneous benefits to the environment.
As part of this, we are currently running an Around Chemring in 80 Days challenge. With 43 teams signed up to take part, including Chemring CEO Mick Ord, colleagues are cycling, running and swimming to clock up the miles. Just like Philias Fogg’s famous adventure, the Chemring challenge runs for 80 days, with colleagues crossing the virtual finish line on 19 July.
During Bike Week, a team of eight colleagues from Chemring Countermeasures UK (CCM UK) are also in training for the Ride with a Veteran challenge to raise money for the Royal British Legion Industries (RBLI). The challenge, taking place in July, will see the team cycling a whopping distance of 241km from Aylesford to Dover and then from Calais through France to the Menin Gate in Ypres, Belgium.
Whether taking part in a challenge event or simply swapping your car for your bike on the commute to work, cycling can not only make you healthier and happier, but it’s also good for your bank balance too. So get involved this week and beyond.
