Now in its 20th year, UK Recycle Week takes place between 16 – 22 October 2023. It’s a celebration of recycling across the nation, galvanising us all into recycling more of the right things, more often.
Across Chemring, we are on a path to becoming carbon neutral by 2030, with our commitment to environmental sustainability, both globally and in our local communities. Improving our sustainability performance across Chemring plays a key role in how we run our businesses today and plan for the future.
All Chemring businesses have active sustainability programmes, both globally and locally, to reduce our environmental impact, and in 2022, we submitted our first Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP) report showing our carbon data.
Recycling initiatives in action
New Recycling Hub
At Chemring Countermeasures USA (CCM USA), our goal for 2023 is to reach 75% landfill avoidance, and we have various programmes across the business to help us meet that goal, including a new recycling operations centre at our site in Toone, Tennessee.
Earlier this year, CCM USA team officially repurposed one of their buildings as a recycling hub for various recyclable materials including paper, cardboard, scrap electronics, aluminium cans, plastic waste, wooden pallets, and glass bottles.
Paper Reduction
The team at the CCM USA site in Toone, Tennessee, have also introduced a new Asset Integrity system alongside a bid to reduce paper usage with more computer tablets. The tablets are used to reduce the need to print maintenance work orders, saving 4,800 printed pages per week. This equates to more than 31 trees saved.
