The Generation Game

Across Chemring, we have many family and friends who work together, even family members across two generations working alongside one another. But Bjørn Tore Gregertsen, an operator at Chemring Nobel, has gone one better and is the fifth generation of his family to work at the Saetre site in Norway.
We caught up with Bjørn to find out more.

“I’m an operator in one of the houses in the production of explosives here at Chemring Nobel. I have worked here for just over a month now, so I’m still new to this. Previously, I worked at Orica Limited for about six years. Over the last ten years, I have worked in kindergarten.

“I decided to apply for a job with Chemring as some of my friends have worked here for years and told me good things about Chemring. I also wanted to try something new.

“My parents worked at this facility when Dyno Nobel operated it before Chemring bought the business. I am the fifth generation of my family to work here.
“My mother was a secretary here, and my dad had different jobs at Engene and Gullhaug, working for Dyno. My great-grandfather used to drive the boat at Engene. My parents have both retired now, so we don’t actually work together, but we all have a history here.

“Chemring is a good employer in this area, and a lot of local people work here. Chemring also contributes to the local community in different ways.

“Although I’m still very new here, it seems like a great place to work. I really like the shift work, and it seems like no days are the same. I still have a lot to learn.

“As for the next generation, I don’t have children, but if I had, I would tell them that I enjoy it here and would recommend Chemring!”
