On 21 November 2024, Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre visited Chemring Nobel today together with Mayor Lene Conradi, Ivar Granum, Åsmund Aukrust, Marie Østensen and others.
The visit follows the recent announcement that the Norwegian Government will co-finance and participate in a feasibility study with Chemring Nobel to assess the development of a new production facility to increase the production of military explosives at Chemring Nobel. The feasibility study is in addition to earlier grants from the European Commission and the Government of Norway of c.£90m to fund development to increase capacity on site, which is already underway.
During the visit, the group were shown the key parts of the site and the current construction area.
Helge Helsby, Manging Director, Chemring Nobel said:
“We are proud to welcome the Prime Minister to Chemring Nobel to show how we work to strengthen Norway's and Europe's defence industry. The need for increased production capacity is critical, and the Government's initiative to support the feasibility study shows that together, we are taking responsibility for increasing safety. We are ready to increase our production and contribute to stability in a challenging time. We also look forward to creating new jobs and value for the local community.”
