Today is Reserves Day, a day to recognise Reservists who give up their spare time to serve in the Reserve Forces. They balance their civilian life with a military career to ensure that, should their country require them, they would be ready to serve as part of the military.
To recognise Reserves Day, we’re sharing experiences from one of our Reservists who recently took part in an annual military competition aimed at stopping cyber-attacks.
Peter is a Senior Engineer at Roke and has been in the British Army Reserves as an Operator Military Intelligence (OPMI) for the past five years.
Peter recently took part in Defence Cyber Marvel 3, an annual competition and training exercise for military staff across all three services - Royal Navy, Army, and Royal Air Force - as well as teams of soldiers from other countries. The competition tests the skills of the participants to stop potential cyber-attacks against the UK.
The competition is the biggest Army-led cyber exercise in Western Europe and includes:
• 41 teams with 1,000 participants
• 90 organisations, 17 nations and 51 industry partners
• One shared emphasis on cybersecurity
